Agave Route - Full day

The experience consists of visiting the wild agave fields and organic agave plantations on the Pampa Blanca farm
(2,350 M.A.S.L.), – (Cordillera Blanca), to feel the most original and rugged side of the Andes and the dry forest ecosystem, with varieties of agave (Agavaceae and Cactaceae) and make a comparison with the types and cultivation areas of
agave in Mexico.

Agave Route - Paron Lagoon

As in the full-day Agave Route, the next day we will tour "The Origin of Water": Laguna Parón (4,200 MASL)
From the City of Caraz, we begin the journey to the origins of the Agave. After two hours you reach the lagoon
Stop of turquoise waters, source of pure water that for millions of years was in a solid state as part of the
snowy mountains that surround that navel of life.

Natural Experiences

Winchus Andean Viewpoint

Places to visit:
On the way you can see the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Huata, different high Andean towns, the remains
archaeological sites of Katiamá and finally we arrive at the Winchus Viewpoint (4,300 M.A.S.L.) where you can observe the
attractive Raimondi Puyas that can measure up to 12 meters in height.

Cañón del Pato

Places to visit:
Duck Canyon (intake and narrowest part of the canyon). In this place it is observed that the waters of the Santa River have pierced the granite rocks, creating a 13 km canyon. long, 600 meters high and 15 meters wide at its narrowest part. The highway passes through 35 tunnels that lead to the Pato Canyon Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Paron Lagoon

Places to visit:
The Parón Lagoon (4,200 M.A.S.L.) is the largest in the White Mountain Range. Its waters show a beautiful turquoise color. Walking by on the right side we climb the Morrena, to a viewpoint from where you can see the Nevado Huandoy (panoramic view of the lagoon), Caraz, Aguja, Artesonraju, Paria, Garcilazo, Chacraraju, Pisco, Huandoy. You can walk for about 5
hours round trip, until reaching the
Artesoncocha Lagoon, at the foot of the snow-capped mountain Artesonraju, nice hike for acclimatization.

Tunnel Punta Olimpica / Chacas

Places to visit:
The Punta Olímpica tunnel, considered the highest trans-Andean tunnel in the world as it is located at 4,738 m.a.s.l. has a length of 1,384 meters. From this place we can see impressive snow-capped mountains and lagoons. Chacas located in the Conchucos area, on the east side of the Huascarán National Park, stands out for its square with cobblestone streets, houses with double-pitched roofs, adorned by carved wooden balconies on the parish art school, the Don Bosco artisans workshop of Operation Mato Grosso (their beautiful works stand out
in carved wood which are exported to demanding markets abroad).

Trekking Laguna 69

Places to visit:
It is a very pleasant hike of moderate difficulty and is the perfect one-day trek for all those who love the mountains, it starts from the Llanganuco lagoons (Laguna Orconcocha) and continues the route through the Demanda ravine (Cebollapampa 3,900 meters ), until reaching lagoon 69 (4,600 meters above sea level). During the walk of approximately 7 hours, we will see the snow-capped Huascarán, Pisco and Chacraraju from where the lagoon of indescribable beauty, beautiful waterfalls, flora and fauna is born.

Miramar and Pampacocha lagoons

Places to visit:
An hour away by car, these two picturesque lagoons are located at an approximate height of 3,100 m.s.n.s. It is the ideal place for bird watching and a good picnic. Pampacocha Lagoon is the largest and allows you to take a walk around it. , for lovers of water sports, they can do the SUP and Kayak rides (coordinate with local operators in advance, for bicycle lovers they can take a good route between both lagoons and those who want to walk a good route between the Pampacocha lagoon to Caraz is an excellent alternative.
You can do the complete trekking from the town of Tsactsa in Santa Cruz, passing through the two lagoons and arriving
to Caraz (approximately 12 km), estimated walking time 5 hours.

Rocotuyoc Lagoon

Places to visit:
The Rocotuyoc lagoon (4,550 meters above sea level), also called Paccharuri, is located between the Honda and Paqcha streams, very close to the town of Vicos. The lagoon is located at the foot of the snow-capped Copa and in a half hour walk along the right bank of the lagoon, you can reach a small frozen lagoon.

Highlight:
Rocotuyoc Lagoon, Frozen Lagoon, cave paintings, Paqcha waterfall, Nevado Copa. You can enter through Vicos or Honcopampa.

Snowy Pastoruri / Puyas Raimondi

Places to visit:
Tour that combines adventure and nature, to the south of the Callejón de Huaylas, we visit the towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac, the Huascarán National Park (the Patococha lagoon, the gasified waters, the Pumashimi waterhole, the Puyas Raimondi -the most beautiful exponent of the high Andean flora- the rock art paintings and the Nevado Pastoruri.

Cultural Experiences

Caraz City

Places to visit:
The city of Caraz is the capital of the province of Huaylas; It is surrounded by flower crops for export such as carnations, roses, chrysanthemums, lilies and other flowers. In the Plaza de Armas we find a water fountain dating from 1891, worked in bronze, and a pergola from 1927; It is the only square that preserves its originality in the entire Callejón de Huaylas. In addition, from here you can see the imposing peaks of the Nevado Huandoy.
The market offers a fair atmosphere and you can find cooking items, fruits, typical clothing from the region, crafts, etc. The Museum located on the second floor of the Casona del Club Unión, offers a wide display that contains a collection of ceramics, vessels, textiles, and human remains from ancient cultures found in the archaeological centers of Tumshukaiko, Pueblo Viejo and Huandy.

Shocsha Experiential

Places to visit:
The tour starts from the Plaza de Armas of the city of Caraz and continues through the upper part of the city. You reach the limit of the LLullán River, which is the main water source of the city and the area to visit. The visit consists of two thematic tours, the first starts from the Stone Mill and visits the blacksmith (only in the mornings), who skillfully shows how to forge iron and turn it into tools for use in agriculture, later you visit a beekeeper, who teaches the process of honey and its derivatives, the journey continues and then reaches
an artisanal fish farm, an interesting place to learn how to raise trout, the tour ends by visiting the archaeological remains of Tumshukaiko.
The second route includes a route that allows you to observe and recognize species of herbaceous and shrubby flora, endemic and introduced. The different crop fields with traditional crops and flower fields, as well as the recognition and tasting of seasonal fruits. From the Hushnu Cotu viewpoint, you can see the northern part of the city of Caraz and the greenery of the countryside. To finish, we will visit the Llullán River.
